Highest Score in IPL 2024: The T20 format gives the batters freehand to go for the big hits and not to get tied down by textbook approach to batting. The franchise-based leagues like the IPL are crowd-pullers, where the fans pay to watch the big aerial shots landing in the stands.
In the first match of the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League, Brendon McCullum of Kolkata Knight Riders set the stage on fire by playing a whirlwind knock of 158 runs off 73 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore, until that record for highest score in IPL was broken by Chris Gayle.
Gayle's 175 not out off 66 balls is still the highest score by a batter in IPL history. Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013, he took the bowling attack of Pune Warriors (now defunct) to the cleaners by hitting 13 fours and 16 sixes.
The third highest scorer in the tournament's history is Quinton de Kock, who playing for Lucknow Super Giants in the 2022 edition of the IPL, smashed 140 off 70 balls, studded with 10 sixes and equal number of boundaries.
In the top-10 of the elite club of highest scorers, four Indian batters KL Rahul (132 off 69 balls), Shubman Gill (129 off 60 balls), Rishabh Pant (128 off 63 balls) and Murali Vijay (127 off 56 balls), also feature. AB de Villiers finds his name twice in the top-10 of the list with scores of 133 off 59 balls and 129 off 52 balls. Gayle's another blitz of 128 off 62 balls is placed eighth in IPL highest score category.
IPL 2024's highest score is 113 not out by RCB's Virat Kohli, who is also the leading run-scorer of the season. The 113 was also the first century of IPL 2024 and the second being scored by Jos Buttler of Rajasthan Royals.
