India vs England 2nd ODI Highlights: Rohit Sharma maintained a strike rate close to 150 throughout the innings but England rarely come close to dismissing him before they actually got his wicket.

India vs England 2nd ODI Highlights: Rohit Sharma's century had set India on the way to an emphatic win in the 2nd ODI despite England setting them a target of 305. India needed just 30 to win off the last 10 overs but they ended up losing wickets in the 40th and the 41st overs to suddenly be down to their last four wickets. Ravindra Jadeja finally finished it off with a four and India won by four wickets. The hosts have also taken a 2-0 lead in the rubber, thus confirming a series win for themselves....Read More

Rohit was woefully out of form before this match but anyone who has seen only what he has done today in Cuttack will never believe that. The Indian captain has looked utterly unbeatable and he blasted his way to his 32 ODI century in just 76 balls. Rohit hit as many as seven sixes and nine fours on the way and he hit two more fours off the last two balls of the over in which he brought up the ton.

Rohit and Shubman Gill's dominant opening stand ended on 136 off just 100 balls, with the latter falling to a near-perfect yorker from Jamie Overton on 60 off 52 balls. Rohit, meanwhile, has looked as dominant as ever, and India would have been hoping that Virat Kohli can emulate his old mate and get some big runs. However, the latter fell to a brilliant delivery from Adil Rashid, thus bringing out the in-form Shreyas Iyer.

Rohit blasted his way to a 30-ball fifty and has simply continued from where he was before his brisk start was interrupted by some faulty stadium lights in Cuttack. The Indian captain seemed to have shaken off his horribly poor form and was giving plenty of glimpses of his best when the stadium lights gave away and disrupted the Indian chase in Cuttack. India are chasing a target of 305 and were on 48/0 in 6.1 overs when players were forced off the field. The light had switched off after the last ball of the sixth over and then came back on for one delivery in the seventh. After another long break, it looked like things were good to go but the lights went off again right when Saqib Mahmood was getting ready to set off in his run up for the second ball of the over.

Rohit had scored 29 runs in 18 balls with one four and as many as three sixes at the time that the players walked off the field while Shubman Gill had scored 17 runs in 19 balls with three fours at the other end.

England were all out for 304 in 49.5 overs. Although they have set India a daunting target of 305 to chase, it could've been much higher had it not been for a late flurry of wickets. Harry Brook and Joe Root first turned the heat on India in steaming Cuttack in the middle overs and then Jos Buttler and Root did the same. On both occasions, the partnership ended with the batter not named Root practically throwing away their wickets.

Brook and Root saw spinners off so comprehensively that Rohit Sharma was forced to turn back to Harshit Rana. Brook initially looked set to change gears against the pace of Rana but ended up perishing to the very bowler thanks to a brilliant catch by Shubman Gill. He put up a stand of 66 runs with Root. Buttler then seemed set to grind India to the ground with Root as the pair knocked off 51 runs for the fourth wicket off just 54 balls largely by running between the wickets. However, he fell against the run of pay to Hardik Pandya right after the partnership crossed fifty. Root is still out there though and England have got a good platform to work from.

England's openers gave them a fantastic start once again and it was debutant Varun Chakravarthy who finally gave India the breakthrough in the 11th over. Phil Salt went for a big shot and perished on 51 off 37 balls and his opening stand with Ben Duckett ended on 81 in just 65 balls. Duckett, meanwhile, raced past his half-century in just 36 balls.

Buttler won the toss and opted to bat against India in the 2nd ODI in Cuttack. Varun Chakravarthy became India's second-oldest debutant, after he replaced Kuldeep Yadav in the Playing XI. Rohit Sharma also announced the return of Virat Kohli, which caused a huge roar in the stadium. The one to go out was Yashasvi Jaiswal. Shreyas Iyer keeps his place after impressing in the series opener the other evening.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Onto Ahmedabad we go

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: So that's that for this series. England are really getting a beating going into the Champions Trophy and to a certain extent they really have to look at themselves. Today, they could have really put this game completely out of India's grasp during their innings. Almost every time it looked like they were set to put up a big partnership, a questionable shot came along and ended it. It was somewhat similar from India but that is largely because that incredible opening stand between Rohit and Gill set the game up so beautifully for them. England now have one more game to try and get a win in their kitty before the tournament.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Rohit is the player of the match

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: No surprises that Rohit Sharma is the player of the match. He did something that fans in Cuttack will probably remember for the rest of their lives. "It was good and really enjoyed being out there, scoring some runs for the team. Important game with the series on the line but I broke it down to pieces about how I wanted to bat. Longer than T20s and shorter than Tests and I wanted to break it down. I wanted to bat as deep as possible and that was my focus. Looking at the pitch - when you play on black soil, it tends to skid on a bit and you have to show the full face of the bat initially. Then they bowled into the body and kept it on the stumps and that's where I prepared my plan and tried to access the gaps. Got very good support from Gill and Shreyas as well. Enjoy batting with Gill. Very classy player and doesn't seem to get overawed by the situation and the numbers are there as well, if I'm not wrong, for Gill. The middle overs are quite important and that's where the game can go either side. If you squeeze the middle overs, you need not worry much about the death. The middle overs is very crucial and even in Nagpur, we squeezed them and got wickets. When you keep taking wickets, the run-scoring is not easy. We want to keep getting better as well. Nothing specific we want to work on but overall we want to keep getting better as a player and team. That is what we want to do. As long as guys are clear about what they are supposed to do, if they keep doing that not much to think about."

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: 'Credit to Rohit,' says Buttler

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Jos Buttler all praise for Rohit Sharma in the post-match presentation ceremony. "I thought we did a lot of things well, we got into a nice position with the bat. We needed someone to push on and get us to 350. Credit to Rohit, he batted superbly, he has been batting like this since a few years in ODI cricket. Wanted to get runs on the board, it skidded on and the opposition played well. We played the powerplay brilliant, we needed someone to kick on and a score around 330-350 would have been defendable. Just keep making steps in the right direction, the results are not there but we need to keep going and be positive."

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: India beat England by 4 wickets, confirm series win

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Jadeja finishes it with a wonderful shot inside out through covers for four. India have beaten England in an ODI series at home for the seventh consecutive time, a streak that goes back to January-February 2002. In fact India are unbeaten at home against England in ODI series since December 1984-January 1985.

All of it largely thanks to Rohit Sharma putting on the kind of display only he can put. His 136-run stand with Shubman Gill put India on the way but he continued and pretty much ended the match as a competition by scoring 119 in 90 balls. That was as good a cricket knock as any you could ever see. Another point to note that he definitely wasn't happy with how his side finished his chase. Rishabh Pant has been warming the bench in this series. Rohit is having a long chat with Gambhir now. What could it all mean? We will have to wait and watch. Unless you are someone who has got sources in weird places of course.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: India 3 runs away

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Axar nearly beheads Jadeja with a powerful swipe down the ground. The mid-on fielder takes a shy at the striker's end and then Jadeja calls for a run off the overthrow! It was a tight single, Axar turns around and laughs pointing at Jadeja. In the dressing room, Rohit isn't too happy with that risk. He probably just wants this circus to end.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: GONE! Two wickets in two overs!

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: India really not doing themselves any favours here. Pandya pulls straight down the throat of deep square leg. Pandya pulls but cannot clear the fielder. India were suddenly down to their last four wickets out of nowhere in the last match as well. The coaches and captain have said that they are trying to win matches in a certain way, but that shouldn't be resulting in a pattern of collapses for their lower middle order.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: OUT! Rahul is caught behind

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Well England don't celebrate but the fact remains that India are making more difficult for themselves than it should be. At the same time, they are chasing 305 after all and so shouldn't it be difficult? Anyhow, Rahul tries to pull a short one from Overton, gets a faint top edge and Salt takes the catch.

Cheers around the ground now, as is increasingly the case everywhere, as Hardik Pandya walks in.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Into the last 10 overs...

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: And India need just 30 runs to win from 60 balls with KL Rahul and a well-set Axar Patel in the middle. Axar was given out off the last ball of the 40th over from Livingstone but the batter reviewed that straightaway. It was pitching outside leg so no LBW. And there was no bat either and so Salt's catch doesn't stand. Axar on 30 off 33, Rahul on 10 off 10.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: The sensational Liam Livingstone!

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: He has been easily England's best bowler today. Gives three runs in the 38th and Livingstone has now bowled six overs for just 22 runs, with the showstopper wicket of Rohit Sharma as well. KL Rahul is the new batter, he has scored two in two, Axar on 24 off 29.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: RUN-OUT! England capitalise on a mix-up this time

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: They don't get away with it this time. The running between the wickets hasn't been too impressive between Axar and Iyer and it is the latter who falls. Axar flicks the last ball of the 37th over and then holds up his hands straightaway. For some reason, Iyer doesn't pay heed at all. That was dozy from Shreyas, Axar had signalled it straightaway and his partner just didn't pay attention. Shreyas runs back but the throw comes in and he is gone for all money.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Collision between Livingstone and Axar!

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Nothing untoward there though and India run the single they had intended to take. Shreyas flicks the last ball of the 36th to no-man's land and sets off for a casual single. Livingstone ran in the direction that the ball was going and collides with Axar. Axar falls but then runs anyhow. Shreyas on 42 off 44, Axar on 20 off 22.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Drinks after the 32nd over

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: England royally botched up a run-out chance in that over. Axar slaps the first ball of the 32nd from Livingstone to the deep square leg area for four. A wide down the leg side next ball and then three singles. For the second of those, Shreyas cut the fourth ball to backward point and just set off without really seeing that Mahmood had stopped the ball quite brilliantly. He throws the ball to Salt and there was no batter in the frame whatsoever but the England wicketkeeper fails to collect! That is unbelievably poor from Salt. This was their chance to get back in the game. India have thus far done well to not go into a shell while not taking any unnecessary risks, save for that single. Shreyas on 32 off as many, Axar on seven off 10.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: OUT! Rohit's majestic knock ends

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: He has mishit one at long last, Liam Livingstone does something that has looked impossible. Rohit Sharma falls after showing what made him one of the all-time greats. He could very well walk out by “respect” Mourinho-style and no one would hate him. But he is Rohit Sharma and so he just walks out looking at the ground beneath him, probably disappointed he didn't bat through the innings. An incredible knock comes to an end, Cuttack stands up to applaud.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: The runs continue to flow for Rohit

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Iyer turns over strike to Rohit second ball of the 27th and the Indian captain then blazes the third ball through backward point for a four. Single off the next ball and Iyer keeps the next two balls out. This stand has crossed 50, by the way, and Rohit has been the aggressor despite slightly slowing down for about 2 overs when he was in his nineties. Unbelievable.

He is on 115 off 82 balls, Iyer on 14 off 20.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: OF COURSE HE BRINGS IT UP WITH A SIX! A 76-BALL CENTURY FOR THE GREAT MAN. Iyer takes a single off the first ball of that over from Rashid to bring Rohit back on strike. The Indian captain steps out of his crease and deposits the ball over long on. He doesn't even celebrate his century really. The helmet stays on the head, he goes and hugs Iyer before just waving the bat to the crowd like he just scored a half-century.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: And the wait continues…

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Importantly for India though, this little dip in the scoring rate doesn't really do them any harm at the moment. Just three runs off the 25th over by Wood, every ball Rohit faced laced with tension. He missed out on the third ball which was a half volley on his pads. Rohit takes a single off the fifth ball and Iyer takes a single off the last to keep strike. Rashid to continue for his eighth over.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: A look at the crowd may tell you that India are suddenly losing this match but the truth is anything but. Overton goes short to the in-form Iyer fifth ball of the 21st, the latter pulls it fine to the boundary. He keeps strike with a single next ball. He has moved to six in as many balls, Rohit on 82 off 60.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: OUT! No big comeback for Kohli!

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Kohli falls to Rashid for the fourth time in ODIs. Third ball of the 20th from Rashid, it turns big on Kohli as he tries for that cover drive that had been his bane throughout the tour of Australia. Big appeal for caught behind, Salt whips off the bails as well, the umpire shakes his head and Buttler goes upstairs. Sharp turn after the ball pitches, Kohli came right to that point and there was an edge after all. Silence around the ground now.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Atkinson continues for the 18th, goes short to Rohit again and the Indian captain pulls it on the hop past deep fine leg for four. Single off the third ball and Kohli plays the next ball to mid-on for a dot. Then he presses forward and plays the kind of on-drive that those who wrote the textbooks for batting may think only exists in theory. Absolutely perfect balance and timing, he doesn't even bother running as the ball goes to the boundary behind the umpire. He is on four off five at the end of that over, Rohit on 78 off 51.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Oh that is just a wonderful delivery from Overton. Gill tucks away the first ball for four, the second is wide down the leg side and then Gill plays it to backward point. Gillt then hammers the third ball, sent in at length, square to the boundary. And then comes a yorker from hell by Overton, too good for Gill. Too good for any human being. And his stumps are gone.

Well the crowd has only been ramped up by that wicket because the next man in is Virat Kohli. Rohit is motoring along, can Kohli join his old mate and shake off his own poor form?

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Oh feast your eyes on that! Bowlers have got him out in recent months by enticing him to play that shot but don't do that when he is seeing the ball like this! Gus Atkinson returns for the 16th over, Gill takes a single second ball. Atkinson then digs the third ball in, Rohit plays that perfect pull shot of his along the ground to the deep fine boundary. He plays the exact same shot next ball but a deep fine fielder has been placed there and the batters run a single. Another single next ball and then Rohit doesn't even bother keeping it down. Dug in and this time Rohit leaves the fielder in the deep staring at the ball as it flies over him into the stands. Wowza!

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Inching closer and closer to resumption now…

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: All right the umpire has had a word with Jos Buttler, the England side are all riught by the boundary, getting ready to come. Rohit Sharma has also appeared, he is completely kitted up. He has sat down in the dug out and is having a conversation with Gill, who has stopped joking around with Kohli and Co. and has his game face back on.

All the lights have been functional for a while now and we are close to resumption. Rohit Sharma would not be happy with this at all, he has to basically start from scratch here.

Feb 9, 2025 6:42 PM IST

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Play to resume soon...

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Shubman Gill has looked relaxed, he has spent almost the entire duration of this break in the dugout, hanging out with a padded up Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Sing, Kuldeep Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal and fielding coach T Dilip. It's all smiles and laughter and, to no one's surprise, Kohli seems to be leading the riot. Rohit Sharma can't be seen though.

It seems that a generator connected to the floodlights had to be replaced and there would be no further issues. No signs of a resumption yet though. It has been well over 20 minutes since the players left the field.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Wow, these lights haven't been used for too long today, remember. And now one of them refusing to work at the end of the sixth over, which begs the question - was that light even ready for this match in the first place?

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: The floodlights causing more trouble

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Well the biggest noise is right now coming from the stadium dj who is absolutely bellowing at the top of his voice to try and put some life in this crowd, who are just not liking this at the moment, quite understandably. The lights came back on for one ball to be bowled in the seventh over, in which Gill takes a single. Then it's gone again. A long wait ensues and just when it looks like we are good to go, the lights go off again.

Rohit walks up to the umpires and to the bowler and is now deep in discussion.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Rohit and Gill putting on a show

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: One of the halogen lights are flickering away and well, it eventually shuts down altogether and so we have a delay after the sixth over. Mahmood and Atkinson continued for their third overs, no sign of Mark Wood or dew so far. Rohit sends the second ball of the fifth over back over the bowler's head with a nice extension of his arm. He takes a single next ball and Gill takes two off the last. Gill gets four off the second last ball of the sixth over. Rohit on 29 off 18, Gill on 16 off 18 balls.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: India motoring along

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: That would've been a good over had it not beeen for Atkinson overpitching on Gill's pad fourth ball of the fourth over. Gill clips it away with just wonderful timing to the boundary on side. Gill on eight off 11 at the end of that over, Rohit on 20 off 13.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: 11 runs off the 3rd! Rohit looking very good indeed

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Nope, no commentators' curse intended here. Rohit confidently defends down the first ball from Mahmood. The bowler gives some width next ball and Rohit simply plays an extension of an offside defence. Timed to absolute perfection and the ball flies for six runs over cover. That was just poetry in motion from the Indian captain. He clips the next ball past midwicket for a single. Gill then sends the fifth ball away through the leg side with a short-arm pull for a four. He ends the over on four off six, Rohit on 19 off 12.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Atkinson pins Rohit down in the first three balls, the Indian captain takes it on the body first and third balls. Then he charges down the track fourth ball, gets a thick edge and the ball goes through the off side for four. Then he flicks the fifth ball, he had been dismissed trying to play that a few times in the past few months but this time he goes through with it. The ball flies over midwicket for a six. India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Rohit Sharma is off the mark

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Rohit chases after the second delivery which is wiiiiiiide outside off stump. He then looks at the umpire incredulously, surprised that wasn't given as wide. He then clips the next ball his thights for a single and has a word with the umpire at the other end after that. Gill sees off the last two balls. Gus Atkinson to take the other new ball, Jofra Archer is not playing today, remember.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Kevin Pietersen lets rip on England batters

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: England have scored 304 and still it feels like they have thrown away a chance to get a truly big score. Despite scoring 304. That is how frustrating most of those players were when they practically threw their wickets away at a time when they should've consolidated.

“Lack of hunger to get that 130-140. Too easy. Get 40, 50, 60 and it's cool everything is fine. I'll probably play the next game, if I don't I'll go and play golf and do what I like. It seems like they are lacking that hunger to get a 100. This team here should be scoring 350 today. They might still win, but they should be able to be ruthless,” says Pietersen on Star Sports. He later adds that Joe Root is probably gutted that he was out for 69 runs but he doubts if the other batters who fell for similar scores feel that way.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: England 304 all-out in 49.5 overs

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Two run outs end the England innings. It is a daunting target that they have set up for India to chase but it could've been so much more than that. Moreover, England have thus far been able to bat the full 50 overs just once since the end of their 2023 World Cup campaign. India have two misfiring seniors in their batting lineup while the rest have looked fairly good. It is when they are chasing targets like 305 that we have seen the best of Rohit and Kohli over the years. There is no better chance for the two old warhorses to wiund the clock back and get some runs in their pockets.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: OUT! Rashid's late charge ends with a mix-up

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: Complete misunderstanding there. Livingstone knocks the second last ball of the 49th from Rana away, fully intending to give Rashid strike but the latter wants to run two. He is halfway down the pitch when Livingstone sends him back, throw comes to the bowler who sends it to the wicketkeeper who takes off the bails.

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: 4, 4, 4! HAT-TRICK OF BOUNDARIES FOR RASHID!

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: That over from Shami has ended up being a good one for England. The fourth ball is a length delivery, Rashid sends it over mid-off for four. Another shortish delivery from Shami next ball, this time Rashid wallops it past long on for another four. Then he clears his front leg and smashes the last ball through covers. Wowza!

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: OUT! Shami gets a wicket

India vs England LIVE SCORE, 2nd ODI: India have put on quite a chokehold and so England have no choice but to take some risks at this stage. Livingstone managed to hit a six off Rana, increasingly turning out to be his nemesis with a lot of words being exchanged between the two, last ball of the 47th. Atkinson tried to continue on that against Shami and ends up holing out at long off. Easy catch for Kohli.
