Mahakumbh Stampede Highlights: 30 dead; CM Yogi orders judicial probe

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is continuously monitoring the situation in Kumbh and is in constant contact with the UP government, according to sources. He has spoken with chief minister Yogi Adityanath three times till now and is giving directions for normalisation of the situation and relief.

At such a time, the party wishes that family of victims have the strength to bear this sorrow."

“We appeal to the government to provide immediate medical attention to the critically injured by transporting them to the nearest top-tier hospitals with the help of air ambulances. Identify the deceased, hand over their bodies to their families, and arrange for their transportation to their residences. Make swift efforts to reunite those who have been separated,” Akhilesh Yadav says in a post on X.

Mahakumbh 2025 LIVE: Samajwadi Party says that reports of casualties among devotees due to a stampede at Mahakumbh were heart-wrenching.

“May God grant peace to the departed souls and a speedy recovery to the injured. Condolences to the bereaved families. The government should carry out rescue and relief operations swiftly,” the party says in a post on X.

-Take a bath at the ghat near Ganga; do not try to go towards Sangam's nose.

- Many bathing ghats have been built for bathing, bathing can be done there.

-Follow the instructions of the administration, cooperate in making arrangements and do not pay attention to any rumour.

Mahakumbh 2025 LIVE: Juna Akhada head Swami Avdheshanand Giri, Yog guru Baba Ramdev and BJP MP Hema Malini took a dip in Ganga on Mauni Amavasya.

Swami Avdheshanand Giri confirms that no royal procession or formal Amrit Snan by Akhadas will be undertaken in light of the stampede. All Sadhus have decided to take the dip in small groups in a simple manner, he says.

Mahakumbh 2025 LIVE: In view of the stampede incident, the Akharas have called off their traditional 'Amrit Snan' for Mauni Amavasya, even as devotees in large numbers continue to take a dip at Sangam and other ghats in the Mela area.

“Seeing the large and indispensable crowds, Akhara Parishad and all the acharyas have decided that we will not do 'snaan' today. We need to keep the problems faced by the common people in mind,” Niranjani Akhara chief Kailashanand Giri Maharaj tells ANI.

Mahakumbh 2025 LIVE: According to an eyewitness, the stampede took place around 2:30 am when a large number of devotees reached the Sangam banks.

“The problem was mainly due to the fact that the crowd had no idea where to go after bathing. These people were carrying heavy luggage on their heads. There were a large number of iron dustbins that pilgrims could not see. A few people fell as they lost balance. Their luggage could be seen all over the area,” the eyewitness said.

The eyewitness added that he, too, sustained injury on his feet. “I somehow stood up and saved my parents and another woman who were all lying on the ground. It was then youngsters in the crowd started pushing others. It was this situation that led to the stampede,” he said.
