He gives himself room and smashes Archer over point for four first ball, then picks the second ball over long leg for a six. The third ball is hit to short cover, then Tilak gets a top edge on the pull fourth ball but Archer's pace makes the ball just take off and go over the keeper for a six. Single off the next ball and Tilak is on 19 off 11 at the end of that over, SKY on 12 off six. Brydon Carse to bowl the last over of the powerplay.

India vs England LIVE SCORE: Wow what a contest this is early on. This is not a walk in the park for India, unlike what was the case in the first T20I. Archer gives Suryakumar some width outside off and the Indian captain cashes in, crashes the first ball he faces today for a four. Archer then goes down the leg side fifth ball, has to bowl it again and he gives width outside off again. SKY slices it behind square for another four. Steep bounce last ball and SKY misses his slash.

India vs England LIVE SCORE: Some early success here for the England pacers. Archer has kept it at a hard length throughout this over and the Indian batter finally succumbs. He rocked back and tried to muscle a pull shot third ball, ends up holing out at deep backward square.

India vs England LIVE SCORE: Abhishek Sharma lays into England's spearhead. Samson takes a single first ball and then some steep bounce from Archer surprised Abhishek. Then just perfect timing from the batter as he elegantly lofts the third ball over covers for the first four of the innings. Abhishek then misses the upper cut fourth ball, which spat up again and then slaps the fifth over extra cover for four. Deep third comes up for the last ball and so Abhishek hits it exactly over that fielder's head for another four.

Now India have in recent years not been too good with keeping up over-rate in T20Is and the umpire seems to be giving Pandya a warning as he ambles up to start bowling the 19th over. Brydon Carse, who was looking so good, is done because Jofra Archer gave an assortment of 'Yes's and 'No's instead of one single call. Archer could be seen saying no to the second run while trudging down the pitch, then motioning with his hands (!!!!) to come through, and then saying no again by which point he himself was almost halfway down the pitch. The throw came at the non-striker's end though and Carse is gone for all money.

Carse smashed two sixes off the first two balls of that over Then three more runs off the fourth and fifth balls and then Overton looks completely lost off the last. He hangs back and plays for the spin but this is the googly, it skids through and the stumps are a mess.

Smith seemed to have been picking the Indian bowlers well, dances down the track to Abhishek and tries to go inside out over cover after getting 10 off the first two balls. But this time, he ends up holing out to Tilak Varma.

Varun Chakravarthy takes the ball in the seventh over and there is a big appeal for LBW off the first ball against Buttler. Umpire gives not out and his call is held up when India review. Buttler works the second ball to long on for a single and then Brook loses his bails the very first ball he faces against Chakravarthy. He just couldn't pick the googly, played for the wrong line entirely and falls. Chakravarthy looks at Brook with a wry smile almost like he was asking him which part of Chennai he would've smashed that ball to if it wasn't for the pesky smog that is obviously affecting no one but him in Chennai, as was the case in Kolkata.

Two singles off the first and third balls of the fifth over bowled by Axar and then Brook smashes the fourth over mid-on for a six. Then he drives the fifth offside for a four and finishes that over on 12 off five balls. Bishnoi bowls the last over of the powerplay and Buttler welcomes him with a six right over his head. Five more runs in that over and at the end of it, Buttler is batting on 37 off 20 balls, Brook on 13 off seven balls.

He crashes the second ball over midwicket for a four, then goes for another biggie next ball and that falls just short of Pandya at long. The batters run two there, then Buttler misses the reverse slap and then he picks the off cutter to perfection and sends it soaring back over the bowler's head. The last ball is cut away for a four and Buttler is on 18 off 10 at the end of that over.

It struck him on the grill and so his ears would've been ringing for a few seconds. He takes a single next ball and Buttler takes another off the last to stay on strike.

However, KKR fans couldn't get much of a look at him in the first T20I. It was a tortured stay in the middle for him and he finally perished after scoring seven runs in 14 balls.

India vs England LIVE SCORE: Abhishek has never really looked back since he hit top form in the IPL last year, except maybe for a few T20Is after his international debut. Since the start of IPL 2024, Abhishek has a strike rate of 191.71 in powerplays in T20 cricket. Only Travis Head, his Sunrisers Hyderabad opening partner, has a better powerplay strike rate (195.71) in this period.

The BCCI has said that Nitish Reddy sustained a "side strain injury" in the practice session yesterday in Chennai and has been "ruled out of the ongoing 5-match T20I series". He will now head to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for "further management".

"Rinku Singh sustained a low back spasm while fielding in the 1st T20I against England on 22nd January. He is progressing well and the BCCI medical team is monitoring him closely. He is ruled out of the 2nd and 3rd games of the ongoing 5-match T20I series," the board further said.

Shivam Dube and Ramandeep Singh have been added the to squad as replacement.

Chepauk was always known as a ground for the spinners but it was the pacers that enjoyed more success here last year.
